A single KMZ mapping every commercial nuclear power site in the U.S. and Puerto Rico: 136 reactors at 85 sites in 35 states + PR, running or retired, back to Shippingport in 1957.
Around the plants that still run, it adds the federal evacuation picture: 10 mile and 50 mile rings for 53 plants, 3,214 FEMA evacuation route lines (about 15,000 route-miles), and 223 reception centers where evacuees are sent to get checked.
Most nuclear maps stop at a pin. This one tells you whether the plant runs, how big it is, what it produced last year, which counties sit inside its 10 mile zone, and which roads lead out.

This is a planning and reference aid. It is not an alert system, not an evacuation order, and not a source of live information.

No live data. No plant status feed, radiation readings, wind, or incident information. In a real event, follow your state and county emergency management instructions.

The rings are circles. Official EPZ boundaries follow roads, rivers and town lines and can run a few miles past or short of 10 miles. Check the plant's official plan before making a decision.

Routes and reception centers are as published by FEMA's REP Program. Counties can change them between years. Center records in this file were updated between June 2022 and February 2026. Check the plant's current emergency brochure; its link is on every 10 mile ring and reception center card.

It's a snapshot. Restarts, shutdowns and decommissioning move. Statuses are as of September 2026.

How the color coding works
Pin color is a claim about plant status. A site takes the color of its most active unit.
RED — OPERATING · 54 sites, 94 reactors
At least one reactor on the NRC operating roster. Every red site carries its 10 and 50 mile rings.
AMBER — RESTART PENDING · 3 sites
Palisades, Crane (Three Mile Island 1) and Duane Arnold. Shut down, with a restart underway or proposed.
AMBER — DECOMMISSIONING · 9 sites
Shut down, cleanup underway.
GREEN — DECOMMISSIONED · 19 sites
Reactor cleanup complete. Green does not mean nothing is there. Several decommissioned sites still hold spent fuel in dry casks, including Trojan, Maine Yankee, Zion and Yankee Rowe.

Coverage gap: FEMA publishes no routes or reception centers for Braidwood, Byron, Clinton, Dresden or LaSalle (Illinois). Their EPZ counties are still on the plant cards.

Checked, not copied. Every EIA-860 plant coordinate agrees with the IAEA reactor record to within 0.9 km. Where EIA lists only a PO box, the card shows the physical site address from NRC or operator records instead. FEMA's source layer tags North Anna's 100 route segments with Watts Bar's plant code, which would put Virginia routes in a Tennessee folder. Here they are placed with North Anna, by location.
All sources are public. No proprietary, purchased, leaked or authentication-scraped data is used anywhere in this product.
Data attribution
U.S. federal data (NRC, EIA, FEMA, DOE) is public domain. Historical reactor coordinates and retired-unit capacity: IAEA Power Reactor Information System (PRIS). This product is a derivative work. On top of the source data it adds site-level status grading, per-unit capacity and output, address verification, coordinate cross-checks, EPZ rings, the route and reception center linkage, and the color-coded KMZ build.
